Jane Lucretia Ryan affectionately known as Sarah Jane, was born on December 21, 1922, and was the eldest of four siblings. Her father, Luke Julius of St Kitts, and her mother, Priscila Fergus of Montserrat, met in the Dominican Republic.
After her mother's passing, Sarah Jane relocated to Dominica and resided with three of her aunts. Sarah Jane became a Seventh-day Adventist, and, after a series of meetings held by Pastor Gooding, she gladly accepted the call and was baptized as a teenager.
She was encouraged by many in Dominica to further her education at what was called “Caribbean Collage”, however, there wasn’t any permanent help from her family to pursue her studies.
After the passing of the aunt she resided with, she was taken in by another aunt, Ann Fergus, who lived in Montserrat. There she stayed and oftentimes she was also with her grandfather.
After moving to Montserrat, her aunt in America had hopes of adopting her and the thought of this brought a level of financial relief. However, her focus was on the Lord and being active in church.
At the early age of 17, she met and fell in love with James Ryan in Montserrat, and at 18, they were happily married. She made frequent visits to Antigua to be with her husband who was employed there at the time.
Their first child was born in Montserrat and following the birth, she decided to settle permanently in Antigua and Barbuda where she lived on Church Street. She and her husband became active members of the St. John’s Seventh-day Adventist Church. They had four children – two boys and two girls. One of the boys died soon after birth and the other died in 2017. Her husband died on May 21, 2003.
Sister Ryan, Sister Sarah and Mother Ryan are all names used to refer to Sarah Jane. She founded the feeding programme called “The Dorcas Society” at the St John’s SDA Church. She was an active Deaconess and choir member under Cuthbert Prince. She was a children’s leader in Sabbath School and a part of the hospital group that visited patients every Sabbath afternoon led by Brother Percy Brathwaite.
When her membership moved to the Villa Church, she worked even harder with children and the Dorcas Society. She was an outstanding cook, baker, seamstress, housekeeper and businesswoman. In the Villa community, she was known as the ginger beer maker, ice cream seller, the frozen- joy lady, treats she taught herself to make.
Sarah Jane believed in Christian education, and she reached out to children in Montserrat who had to end their education in primary school and took them into her home so that they could attend the Seventh-day Adventist School in Antigua.
She had an open loving heart and a strong concern for the advancement of others. She’s described as not just a mother but a close friend, her children’s confidante, a motivator, a teacher, and an example of a true Christian.

Ebeanjo Alphonso Francis Sr. was born on April 25, 1942, in Urlings, Antigua, to George Morris and Adora "Gladys" Price. Growing up in Antigua shaped his character, instilling in him the values of hard work, family devotion, and community that would guide his life.
In 1964, Alphonso decided to seek better opportunities and a chance to build a future by emigrating to St. Croix. During a visit back to Antigua, he met Merna Stevens — an encounter that would change both their lives forever. Married in 1969, their union would span fifteen years, creating a legacy of love and family that would become Alphonso's greatest pride.
Known affectionately as "One Man" – a nickname rumoured to come from his grandfather's saying, "Is only one man in this house and it's me" – Alphonso embodied that independent spirit throughout his life. He was a true entrepreneur, raising cattle and goats, opening his own grocery shop, and establishing a successful business in St. Croix.
His generosity matched his business sense; after closing his food truck, he ensured leftover food made its way to family members. His work ethic was matched only by his generosity—after closing his food truck each day, he made sure no leftover food went to waste, sharing it freely with family members and anyone in need.
Alphonso found joy in cooking for others, watching cricket matches, and playing dominoes with friends and family. But perhaps what defined him most was his wisdom and readiness to offer advice to those who needed it.
His legacy continues through his children: Steadroy( wife Natasha), Asbert (wife Lydia), Alphonso Jr., David (wife Maribel), and Jamila (husband Kenneth); and his grandchildren: Jalya, RJ, Kenneth Jr., Jalyn, Kamal, David Jr., and Shermal and siblings: Gloria, Malcolm, George, Genevieve, Cadella, Michael, and Geraldine. He was preceded in death by his brothers Henry, David, Denfield, and Lawrence, and his granddaughter Rasheeda.
Though Alphonso has left this earthly realm, his spirit lives on through the lives he touched and the values he instilled in us all. We will remember his entrepreneurial spirit, his love of family, and his joy in life's simple pleasures.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Angela Rosetta “Doreen” Matthews, who departed this life on March 14, 2025.
Doreen was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and fierce love—a woman who led with an iron fist when it came to protecting her family and stood unapologetically firm in her beliefs.
Born on September 26, 1944, in Parham Town, Antigua, W.I., she migrated to Boston, MA, in 1990. Doreen was a force to be reckoned with—fiercely independent, bold, and unmistakably herself. She didn’t take nonsense from anyone, always speaking her mind with sharp wit and undeniable wisdom. Her strength echoed through both her words and her actions, as she worked tirelessly to ensure her loved ones were safe, supported, and cared for.
To her family, she was far more than a matriarch—she was a protector, a provider, and a guiding light. She taught us the value of resilience, honesty, and loyalty. Her love, though tough at times, was always genuine. Her unwavering dedication to family was a powerful reflection of her heart.
Doreen leaves behind a legacy of courage and unwavering love, carried forward by her children: Andrea Edwards, Donna Matthews-Jeffrey, Sharon Edwards, Kelvin Edwards, Naomi Edwards, and Jason Barnes; eleven (11) grandchildren, sixteen (16) great-grandchildren, and two (2) great-great-grandchildren, along with many other beloved family members who remain forever grateful for her sacrifices, her lessons, and her unforgettable spirit.
Her absence will be deeply felt, but her love and the values she instilled in us will remain eternal. May she rest in peace—free from pain, watching over us with the same fierce strength and grace that defined her life.
